Looking to increase its presence in the Washington County, Maryland market, Patriot Federal Credit Union decided to add a second branch to better serve their customers. To maintain brand consistency in the area, they opted for a contemporary design that matches their existing branch without creating a cookie-cutter effect. The design responds to the site across from the hospital and medical center allowing for visibility from both directions. Not only does this allow patrons accessibility, but it also serves to either reinforce or introduce the brand to visitors at the medical center and hospital.
MSB Architects designed the space with the particular needs of a bank branch in mind. One half of the building is comprised of offices, which allow clients and employees the discretion necessary to conduct confidential business. The other side contains the teller lines and conference room for the quicker, more public transactions. A wedge-shaped, glass tower was designed between the sides. This allows for more circulation space at the main entrance while maintaining the privacy needed for private offices near the rear. In addition to serving as natural crowd control, the glass tower has maximizes the natural light in the space. The lights surrounding the tower dim automatically when the sun provides adequate light for the space, conserving resources. Finally, the combination of glass with white painted masonry help achieve the contemporary look to compliment the Patriot Federal Credit Union brand.
