Work

The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) saw a need in the marketplace and decided to expand its course offerings to include Hospitality programs. MSB Architects facilitated the design and redevelopment of an existing downtown multi-level, multi-tenant building to an accommodating space for these new programs.

The renovation of the existing structure included a complete redevelopment of the first floor. In response to the program requirements, the design contains a teaching kitchen, two classrooms, a commercial kitchen, and a dining banquet hall for 200 people. These spaces are specifically designed for the application and management of the culinary arts and hospitality programs, respectively. This allows USMH to give their students hands-on and practical applications of their lessons. Periodically during the semester, the students will put their skills to the test as the school opens its banquet hall to the public for food service. The dining hall space also serves as additional event space for USMH. The space also allows for a demonstration kitchen in the future.
